Uzbekistan Airways is the national airline of Uzbekistan, headquartered in Tashkent. The airline uses the Tashkent International Airport hub to operate domestic flights to multiple destinations. The company also operates international flights to Asia, Europe and North America.
With the collapse of the Soviet Union, President Karimov of Uzbekistan authorized the establishment of Uzbekistan Airlines in 1992. The company was established on January 28, 1992, and took over the operating rights of Aeroflot in Uzbekistan on May 31, 1992. Its first flight was from Tashkent to London.
Uzbekistan Airlines uses Russian-made aircraft originally belonging to Aeroflot for domestic flights. International flights use Airbus aircraft leased in 1993. The company offers nearly 50 domestic and international destinations. It has 11 airports, 5 of which are for international flights.
In April 2000, Uzbekistan Airlines had 16,296 employees. Since its establishment, the airline has mainly provided passenger services to Western Europe and other countries or regions.
