The Islamabad Stock Exchange was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee on October 25, 1989. The exchange operates and sets up trading and settlement infrastructure, information systems, technical resources, accessibility, and a fair and orderly market in the Islamabad Capital Territory. On January 7, 1992, it was authorized as a stock exchange. It started trading in July 1992.
In the beginning, the buying and selling transactions in the Islamabad Stock Exchange used verbal bids and quotations), then in 1997 the trading method was replaced with an automated trading system (computer system matching stock orders), usually called ‘ISE-CTS’. In 2002, the exchange was upgraded to a ‘super trading’ trading system, which was not only very effective, but also expanded trading volume and online trading functions.
