The Lao Securities Exchange is the main stock exchange in Laos, which is located in the capital Vientiane. In 2010, the Lao government sought technical and financial support from South Korea and Thailand to help establish the exchange, and the South Korean exchange holds 49% of the exchange.
The construction of the Lao Stock Exchange cost US$10 million to build. It started operations on January 11, 2011. Currently, the exchange has only two listed companies, and it is expected that there will be 3 to 5 listed companies by the end of 2012. Its listed companies include: one is EDL Generation-Public Company, a subsidiary of State-owned energy company Electricite du Laos, and the other is Banque Pour Le Commerce Exterieur Lao (BCEL) Lao, the largest bank in Laos.
The chairman of the Lao Stock Exchange is Dethphouvang Moularat, the currency is Lao Kip, and the listing code is 2. The trading volume on the first day of listing is 2.14 billion kip (US$265,000).
