The National Statistical Institute (Bulgaria) is the national agency responsible for statistics on population, economy and environment in Bulgaria. It was established as a department of the Ministry of Finance in 1880. It carried out its first census in 1881. In 1894, it became an agency of the Bulgarian Ministry of Trade and Agriculture.
In 1910, the Bulgarian National Bureau of Statistics published the first annual statistical report, the ‘Statistical Yearbook of the Kingdom of Bulgaria’. Since 2011, the director is Reneta Indjova.
