Bank of Venezuela (Banco de Venezuela, BDV) is an international general bank located in Caracas, Venezuela. As of June 2008, it has 285 branches in Venezuela.
It was not until 2007 that Venezuelan banks became the market leader, with total deposits accounting for approximately 11.3% of the market share. The main competitors were Banco Bank, Banco Mercantil and BBVA Banco Provincial.
The Bank of Venezuela was established in 1883 as a Venezuelan Commercial Bank and was renamed the Bank of Venezuela on September 2, 1890. Initially, it was the Venezuelan government loan and tax financial institution.
On October 6, 2000, the Bank of Venezuela acquired 100% of the Caracas Bank, making it the largest bank in Venezuela.
