Casa Ley is a Mexican grocery chain that was founded in 1954 by Juan Leyfang. Most of the stores are located in Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Coahuila, Chia Wawa, Durango, Guanajuato. It is the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Mexico. Safeway holds 49% of the company’s shares.
At first, Casa Ley was just a small village shop in the mining town of Tayoltita, which provided goods and services for the gold and silver mining of the Saint Louis Mining Company. In 1948, the shop was stolen by a close friend and colleague, forcing him to find the shop address in another place. In September 1954, the family moved to Culiacan.
In September 1954, Casa Ley was established in Culiacan, Sinaloa, headquartered in Culiacan, Sinaloa, with a total of 150+ stores. The chairman and chief executive officer is Juan Manuel Ley. There are 22,000 employees in total.
