Kelly Blue Book Co., Ltd. was formerly called Kelly Blue Book Co., Ltd., which is a Los Angeles car dealership. Kelly Blue Book Co., Ltd. was founded in 1918. The dealership was founded by Arkansas-born businessman Les Kelly. At first, Les Kelly hired the company’s first employee-his 13-year-old brother. The company started its business with three Model T Ford vehicles.
In 1926, Les Kelly published the first second-hand car shopping guide ‘Kelly Blue Book’. After World War II, due to the shortage of cars, the price of Kelly’s Blue Book began to soar. During this time, Kelly’s Blue Book became the nation’s national car evaluation guide.
At the end of 2010, Les Kelly announced that the Kelly Blue Book was sold to AutoTrader.com for $500 million. The owner of AutoTrader is a privately held Cox Enterprise and investment company Providence equity partner.
