The University of California, Berkeley (University of California, Berkeley) is an American public research university with a campus in Berkeley, California. According to the 2014 Academic Ranking of World Universities, it is the fourth best university in the world.
The University of California at Berkeley occupies 1,232 acres (499 hectares) on the east side of San Francisco Bay, of which the central campus occupies 178 acres (72 hectares). The university jointly manages three laboratories of the United States Department of Energy-Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
