HardwareZone is an IT-oriented Internet portal in Singapore. The company is headquartered in Singapore. It is operated by Hardware Zone Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings. Some of the features of the portal are: IT price lists of several countries, product reviews, technical feature articles and various topic forums.
HardwareZone was founded in August 1998 by five engineering students from the National University of Singapore: Lee Choon Yau, Eugene Low, Poh Swee Hong, Ang Chi Hoe and Jereme Wong. At first, the website was just an online magazine. A year later, it has become a popular website for computer experts in Singapore to discuss hardware and software.
By 2000, HardwareZone attracted 2 million unique visitors every month. The founders began to plan to transform the website into a business portal, and the company launched an initial public offering to raise funds. However, by 2007, the company was not listed on the Singapore Exchange. In 2006, the company was acquired by SPH for 7.1 million Singapore dollars. SPH acquired all of its businesses, including HardwareMAG (HWM), GameAxis (computer game magazine) and published magazine publications PHOTOVIDEOi (digital photography magazine).
