Iga City (Iga) is a city in the center of the Kii Peninsula in the western mountainous area of Mie Prefecture, Japan. As of September 2012, the city has an estimated population of 95,137, with a population density of 170 per square kilometer and a total area of 558.15 square kilometers.
The area of modern Iga city is equivalent to a part of ancient Iga country. This area is one of the ninjutsu centers of the Warring States Period. Iga is the birthplace of haiku poet Matsuo Basho and the hometown of ninja Hattori Hanzo.
