Mahan Air is a private Iranian airline headquartered in Tehran. The airline mainly operates domestic flights to Iran and international flights to the Far East, Middle East, Central Asia and Europe.
Mahan Air was established in 1991 and started to operate as Iran’s first private airline in June 1992. The name’Mahan’ comes from the historical city of Kerman-Mahan. The airline joined the International Air Transport Association in 2001, and the owner is Mol -Al-Movahedin Charity Institute (100%). As of March 2007, it has 2,511 employees.
Mahan Air launched its business in May 1993. Its fleet includes two Tupolev 154 aircraft, 99 employees, and a route network from Tehran to two domestic destinations in Iran. In 1999, it added the Airbus A300 wide-body aircraft and in 2001 it added the Airbus A310 aircraft.
Now, Mahan Air’s route network has expanded to 50 destinations in 12 countries around the world, and has 38 Airbus aircraft and Boeing 747 aircraft. It accounts for approximately 13% of Iran’s international flights and approximately 8% of the domestic market.
Mahan Air’s main hubs are Tehran Mehrabad International Airport and Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport. Key cities include: Shiraz, Kish Island, Kerman, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul. Subsidiaries include: Mahan Aviation Safir and Botia-Mahan Aviation Collage.
Mahan Airlines has 57 aircrafts and 61 destinations. The company slogan is ‘The Spirit of Excellence’. The parent company is Mol-Al-Movahedin Charity Institute, and the chairman and CEO is Hamid Arabnejad.
