The Neues Deutschland is a German national daily newspaper. The newspaper is the German Socialist Party newspaper. Currently, its headquarters is located in Berlin.
The New Deutsche Zeitung was founded in 1946 and was originally called Lizenzzeitung. The first editor of the newspaper was Karl Malone, who served as editor until 1950. On April 23, 1946, the New Deutsche Zeitung was first published by SED. Before the reunification of Germany in October 1990, the newspaper had a circulation of 1 million copies, and its readership was second only to the state youth newspaper junge Welt.
In 2006, the New Deutsche Zeitung had a circulation of 45,247 copies. At present, like many major German newspapers, this newspaper has a serious problem, that is, most readers are over 60 years old. It publishes two editions: the domestic edition and the Berlin and Brandenburg regional edition.
