Rentokil Initial is a British business services group whose shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange and are a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
Rentokil Initial was founded in 1925 by Harold Maxwell-Levreau, professor of entomology at Imperial College London. At that time, Harold Maxwell-Levreau had been investigating how to kill the beetles, which had already invaded Westminster Hall next to the Houses of Parliament. He and his assistant produced an anti-moth fluid called Ento-Kill Fluids. In 1925, he tried to register the company Entokill, but due to the existing trademark, he had to choose the Rentokil company name.
Rentokil Initial was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1969. Sophus Berendsen A/S held 50% of its shares in the late 1990s. Over the years, under the leadership of Sir Cliff Thompson, the CEO of Rentokil Initial, the company has grown at a rate of 20% every year: during this period, Rentokil Initial was named the ‘British Most Admired’ company.
In the first quarter of 2011, Rentokil Initial announced the establishment of India’s largest pest control company in a joint venture with PCI of India. The company acquired 12 companies within three months, including Allgood.
Rentokil Initial is headquartered in Camberley, Surrey, UK. The chairman is John McAdam and the CEO is Andy Ransom. In 2017, there were approximately 31,000 employees. In 2016, Rentokil Initial’s revenue was 2.168.1 billion pounds, operating income was 232.4 million pounds, and net income was 168 million pounds.
