was originally established in London as an email communication called Chip Connection. In 1998, it became a daily online news resource website.
In 2001, Mike Magee left The Register to launch the publication’Inquirer’, and later IT Examiner and TechEye. In 2002, the company expanded its business to London and San Francisco, and it registered a joint venture theregus.com with Tom Hardware Guide in the United States. In 2003, the website moved to theregister.com. These contents were later merged into theregister.co.uk.
In 2011, according to the Circulation Audit Bureau, The Register had more than 350,000 users every day. In 2013, the website had 468,000 daily users and 9.5 million monthly users.
