In 1993, it acquired the West Branch of the Canadian Metropolitan Trust. In 1994, Western Bank of Canada and Northwest Trust and Investment Corporation merged to form Western Bank of Canada.
In 1996, Western Bank of Canada acquired BC Union Bank (founded in 1967), then purchased Aetna Trust Company and changed its name to Western Canada Trust Co., Ltd. In 2001, it acquired the Kelowna and Regina branches of Laurentian Bank of Canada.
