Maxis is an American video game developer and electronic arts division. The studio was co-founded by Will Wright and Jeff Braun in 1987, and was acquired by Electronic Arts in 1997. Maxis is known for making simulation games (including ‘The Sims’).

The Emeryville studio under Maxis closed in March 2015 and transferred product development to other electronic arts studios. Emeryville studio employees are diverted to Maxis and other electronic arts studios. In the organizational structure adjustment in late September, the now-merged Maxis team was moved to work with EA Mobile.

Maxis was founded by Will Wright and Jeff Braun in 1987 to publish ‘Sim City’ on home computers.
