Woori Bank is a Korean bank headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It was established in 2002. Initially, the names of the banks included: the former Industrial and Commercial Bank of Korea, Hanil Bank, and Ping An Bank. The bank brand was founded in 1899. The bank’s chief executive officer is Li Shunyu and has 15,000 employees.
From 1999 to 2002, Woori Bank was called Hanhui Bank. It is a bank under the South Korean Woori Financial Group. In 2004, it established a branch in the Kaesong Industrial Park in North Korea.
In May 2009, Woori Bank became the first bank in South Korea to issue UnionPay debit cards in China. In March 2010, it became the first foreign bank to issue a Shanghai travel card in mainland China.
Woori Bank Jongno Branch is located in Gwangtonggwan. Woori Bank Jongno Branch is the oldest and continuously operating bank in Korea. On March 5, 2001, Woori Bank Jongro Branch was registered as one of the city’s historic sites.
Woori Bank is the first online bank in Korea that supports non-Internet Explorer web browsers for online banking. It has branches in Bangladesh and Indonesia.
On March 14, 2012, Indonesia’s subsidiary Woori Bank Indonesia announced the merger with the local bank Saudara Bank. In April 2012, Woori Bank opened its first branch in Chennai, India.
