Justin Boots is an American manufacturer of western footwear and horse footwear brands. It is a Justin brand and a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. Other brands include: Tony Lama boots, Nocona boots, Chippewa boots and Justin Original Workboots.

Justin started repairing boots in Gainesville, Texas. After obtaining the loan, he began to buy materials and make his own cowboy boots. The early users of Justin were decorative stitches. In 1887, Justin married Louanna’Annie’ Allen. In the early 1890s , Anne Justin developed an automatic measurement kit that allowed customers to order the company’s products by mail.

In 1889, the railroad ran through Nocona, Texas, and Justin moved here to have greater market opportunities. They have seven children-three sons and four daughters-each of them will help the family business. In 1908, Justin told his two older brothers , John and Earl, that they would become equal partners in the family business. Then, he changed the name of the company of his boots to HJ Justin & Sons.

HJ Justin & Sons moved operations to Fort Worth, Texas in 1925. In 1947, the company’s annual sales reached 1 million US dollars. Three years later, Joe’s grandson John Justin Jr. bought the company’s stock and gained control of the company. On November 3, 1950, John Jr. became vice president and general manager.

In 1954, HJ Justin & Sons invented the Roper boots. The company merged with Acme Brick Company in 1968 and became the No. 1 Value Company after the merger. In 1972, John Jr. Justin was elected president and chairman of the board of directors, and the company’s name was officially changed to Justin Industries. In 1984, the company acquired Chippewa Footwear Company.

In 1990, Justin Enterprises acquired rival Tony Lama Boots. In 1999, John Justin resigned from the role of chairman of Justin Industries, and in 2000 the board of directors approved the sale of the company to Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway.

Justin Boots supports professional cowboys through the Justin Sports Medicine team and the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The Justin Sports Medicine team made their debut in the National Finals in 1980. The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund was established in 1989 to provide financial assistance to injured cowboy athletes and has raised more than 1.1 million US dollars so far.
