The Buffalo News (The Buffalo News) is a major Buffalo newspaper-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Area. It is the only newspaper wholly owned by Berkshire Hathaway. The newspaper was founded in 1873 by Edward Hubert Butler as a Sunday newspaper.
In 1880, the Buffalo News was published as a daily newspaper. Until 1914, it was published only from Monday to Saturday and not on Sunday. For most of its time, the newspaper was called the Buffalo Evening News. In 1977, Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway acquired the evening newspaper and began publishing it on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
On September 19, 1982, the Evening News shortened its name to the Buffalo News. Until 2006, the newspaper published two editions of the morning paper and the evening paper. The newspaper participates in the Buffalo community and sponsors charitable, social and educational activities. It also holds the annual Children’s Day. It founded and previously owned WBEN television and radio stations: WIVB (channel 4), WBEN (930), WYRK (106.5) and WTSS (102.5).
Reporters for the Buffalo News and Buffalo Evening News have won three Pulitzer Prizes. In 1958, Bruce Shanks won the editorial comics award on August 10, 1957, for ‘The Thinker’ which detailed the corruption of the league. Its daily newspaper circulation is 181,540 copies, and its Sunday circulation is 266,123 copies.
