The George Washington Hotel (Winchester, Virginia) is a historic American hotel located in downtown Winchester, Virginia. It was built by the American Hotel Company in 1924. Like many hotels of this era, the hotel was built next to the B&O train station and was designed to provide lodging for railway passengers.
At first, the George Washington Hotel in Winchester, Virginia was built in an ‘L’ shape with 102 rooms and 45 bathrooms. The lowest level includes a barber shop, cafeteria, candy store and men’s clothing store. In 1929, the hotel added a wing, providing more than 50 rooms.
In 1950, the George Washington Hotel in Winchester, Virginia was remodeled to include Howard Johnson’s restaurant. The property remains an important part of downtown Winchester, Virginia, and used to be the headquarters of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. Over the years, many celebrities have stayed at the hotel. It was included in the United States National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
