Barbie (Barbie) is a fashion doll launched by American toy company Mattel in March 1959. American businessman Ruth Handler imitated German dolls to create Barbie dolls. Barbie is a brand of Mattel dolls and accessories, including other family members and collectible dolls.
In 2009, Barbie celebrated its 50th birthday. The celebrations included the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week fashion show in New York. This event showcased the works of 50 famous haute couture designers, including Feng Fu Si Ting Bao, Wang Wei Wei, Calvin Klein, Bob McGee and Christian Louboutin.
Mattel estimates that there are more than 100,000 avid Barbie collectors worldwide. Ninety percent of them are women with an average age of 40. They buy more than 20 Barbie dolls every year. More than 45 percent of them spend $1,000 a year.
The early vintage Barbie dolls were auctioned at high prices. The Barbie doll sold in 1959-the mint boxed Barbie doll cost $3, and it was sold on eBay in October 2004 for $3,552.50. On September 26, 2006, a world record for Barbie dolls was born at Christie’s in London, at an auction price of £9,000.
