The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (Central Bank of Sri Lanka) is the central bank of Sri Lanka. The bank was established in 1950 under the Currency Law No. 58 of 1949. It is the highest institution in Sri Lanka’s financial sector.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka is a semi-autonomous institution and revised its focus in December 2002. It has five currency committee members, including the chairman, secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and three members appointed by the President of Sri Lanka. The three members are subject to the approval of the Minister of Finance of Sri Lanka and the Constitutional Council.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka encourages and promotes the development of productive resources in Sri Lanka, and is responsible for the stability of prices and the financial system. It is responsible for currency issuance and management. In addition, it is the economic affairs consultant and banker of the Sri Lankan government.
